A Really Big Score at the Thrift Store!

I stopped by my local Salvation Army store today.  Now I should explain that my local store is more than a store.  It is spread over acres; 5 different buldings as well as a "yard sale" section, it is located at an adult recovery center that is operated by the Salvation Army.  I find my deals in the "yard sale" section - it is just bins and bins of random crap on tables under tents.  Some is good and some is not (like 1997 Hawaiian vacation VHS tapes).  The stuff isn't priced, you just collect up stuff and then an attendant writes up a tag for whatever they are feeling like charging you.  Last time the lady wanted to give me a deal, a bunch of stuff for $1.  Well, today they paid me to shop!

For $4 I got a big empty wooden picture frame (probably 16"x20"), some more Mason jars, Monopoly Jr (with all of the parts & pieces!), a brand new Yankee candle, a little box of notecards AND a State Commemorative Quarter binder WITH the quarters in it!  There is $12.75 worth of quarters in it!!  So they paid me $8.75 to buy that stuff!  Why wouldn't you take the money out before donating it??  Sure the collection might not be worth anything but I guarantee they are worth 25 cents each!!  So I think this trip beats my last one!

My Salvation Army Shopping Trip

So today I stopped by the Lytton Springs Salvation Army on my way home from work. I do this every once in awhile to see if they have anything that I could re-purpose or craft into something cute.

Today I scored all of this:
There is a wooden frame/tray thing, 5 canning jars, a square vase, 8 styrofoam eggs and a small embroidery hoop.  I scored it all for.............ONE DOLLAR!!  That made digging through all of their yard sale bins in the heat so worth it!  I think the lady that wrote my tag up was smoking something, well actually I am sure she was.  The cashier lady also thought she was nuts to give it to me for so cheap!

I like to use the canning jars for flower arrangements, pretty them up with a little ribbon and they make a cute little gift.  No idea what I am going to do with the styrofoam eggs, but I am sure I will think of something or maybe I will give them to Berta she could probably craft up something really cute with them.  I know you will now expect me to make something fab with the wooden frame/tray thing.  Maybe some day I will, but don't hold your breath.  I plan to do this with the embroidery hoop once I collect up enough.  And all of that for $1!

And of course my trip to the Salvation Army provided me with quite a bit of material for my Tuesday Ten, which I will get to pretty soon!
